چکیده

Nonunion of an avulsion fracture of the anterior tibial spine is quite rare. It could be associated with significant instability of the knee as it involves the fixation of the anterior cruciate ligament. Some of the complications of this nonunion include pain in knee extension, loss of knee extension and a certain amount of anterior knee instability. So, loss of knee extension is often a direct result of the nonunion of the displaced fragment. The purpose of this report was to present a case of 14-year-old girl suffering a nonunion anterior spine avulsion fracture. The patient complained of persistent knee pain and loss of knee extension. Plain radiographs, computed tomography (CT) scans and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) were carried out, which revealed a nonunion after avulsion fracture of the anterior tibial spine. The patient was treated by arthroscopic excision of the bony prominence. A final postoperative follow-up of 6 years and 11 months post-surgery, the patient had fully recovered and presented a normal function of the affected knee that she was able to return to sports without any symptoms.

A Case of Nonunion Avulsion Fracture of the Anterior Tibial Eminence

Avulsion fracture of the anterior tibial eminence is an uncommon injury. If bone union does not occur, knee extension will be limited by impingement of the avulsed fragment and knee instability will be induced by dysfunction of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). This report describes a 55-year-old woman who experienced an avulsion fracture of the right anterior tibial eminence during recreat...

Arthroscopic Fixation of Tibial Spine Avulsion in Skeletally Immature: The Technique

Introduction Tibial spine avulsion fracture is more frequent in children than adults. Various methods of fixation have been mentioned, but concern remains about crossing the tibial physis. We present a technique of arthroscopic fixation with non-absorbable suture. Case Report A total of 10 skeletally immature patients with tibial spine avulsion of Meyers and McKeever Type 2 and 3 were include...

Arthroscopic Treatment of a Displaced Nonunion of the Anterior Inferior Iliac Spine Causing Extra-articular Impingement.

This report describes a case of nonunion of an anterior inferior iliac spine (AIIS) apophyseal avulsion fracture with resultant subspine impingement combined with symptomatic femoroacetabular impingement (FAI). A 16-year-old male soccer player presented with a 6-month history of right groin pain exacerbated by kicking and running. The patient was diagnosed with a displaced nonunion of the AIIS ...

Arthroscopic treatment of tibial spine fracture in adult with a simple modified suture fixation technique

Objectives: Extreme tensile force to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) can cause an avulsion of the tibial eminence which may lead to malunion or nonunion resulting in pain, flexion deformity, and instability of the knee. Since the injury is generally regarded as something equivalent to the ACL injury, the treatment requires anatomic reduction of the fragment and preservation of the stabilit...

Arthroscopic Fixation of Tibial Spine Avulsion Fracture in Open Physis

INTRODUCTION Arthroscopic fixation of tibial spine fracture in patients with open physis without damaging the growth plate is very important. We have described a very simple and effective technique for the first time in this article. CASE REPORT A 16-year-old boy sustained avulsion fractures of tibial spine while playing. He was treated arthroscopically with excellent results. CONCLUSION Ar...
